More AI documentation
Install the desktop app, connect your keys and understand when optional cloud features come into play.
Overview
More AI is a free desktop app with one Home for conversations, files and projects, a Code workspace and a built-in browser. Version 0.1.50 adds browser-data import and Library interfaces. Cloud storage access is being opened gradually; connected Google Drive is a separate source.
An account is optional for local desktop use. Sign in for supported cloud execution or sync, web and mobile access, and any pooled allowance granted to the account. A cloud subscription pays for hosted execution and access, not tokens; BYOK usage stays at your provider’s price.
Installation
Download the build for your platform from the home page or the releases page, then follow the steps for your OS.
macOS
Open the .dmg and drag More AI into Applications. On first launch, right-click the app and choose Open to get past Gatekeeper. Apple-silicon and Intel are both supported.
Windows
Run the .exe installer. If SmartScreen appears, choose “More info” → “Run anyway”. The app installs per-user and updates itself.
Linux
Download the .AppImage, mark it executable (chmod +x) and run it. No system-wide install or root access required.
Builds are published by the desktop app’s release CI and the app keeps itself up to date — see Updates below.
Connect your keys
Add a key for your selected model provider in the desktop app. To run with that key in the cloud, separately enable its cloud use or add it in the web app; manage and remove uploaded keys in settings. Model usage is billed by the provider and is not included in a cloud subscription.
- Create an API key in your provider’s dashboard (for example, OpenAI, Anthropic or Google).
- Open Settings in More AI and paste the key into the matching provider field.
- Pick a default model, then start a conversation — you’re ready to go.
You can add keys for several providers at once and switch between their models per conversation.
Models & providers
Connect keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, OpenRouter and other compatible providers. Each conversation can use a different model, so you can match the model to the task.
Point More AI at a model running locally, for example through an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, to keep those model requests on your machine and work without an internet connection. Provider and cloud features still require their respective connections.
Privacy & data
Desktop conversations, project files and context have a local copy in app storage.
Model requests go to the provider whose key you selected. More AI processes the data needed for enabled sync or cloud features. Separately, desktop telemetry and AI Observability start on after setup: observability can send clipped prompts, responses, reasoning and tool details for BYOK as well as pooled runs, while session replay can capture content already rendered in the desktop or web app.
Stay signed out for device-only work, or turn individual sync categories off after sign-in. Cloud execution is controlled separately. Turn off AI Observability to stop future content traces, or the master telemetry switch to stop telemetry and replay; see the Privacy Policy for the full paths and retention details.
Sync & your account
Local desktop use does not require an account. An account is required for supported synchronization, cloud execution, and access from web or mobile. Sync is optional and configurable; its supported categories start on in a new installation and begin syncing after sign-in, while cloud execution stays off until enabled separately.
Signing in is passwordless: enter your email and we send a six-digit code. The supported categories enabled in Settings can make relevant conversations, workspace state and results appear at app.more-ai.net and on mobile. Cowork and Code support can vary by workflow during the beta.
New here? Signing in on the web creates your account and workspace. On desktop, review the per-category sync switches if you want any supported work to remain device-only; cloud execution is a separate control.
Updates
More AI can check, download and install updates in place according to the update setting you choose; you do not need to reinstall the app manually for a normal update.
Updates use a primary download domain and automatically try a fallback mirror when that source is blocked or unreachable.
Troubleshooting
macOS says the app is from an unidentified developer
Right-click (or Control-click) More AI in Applications and choose Open, then confirm. You only need to do this once.
Windows SmartScreen blocks the installer
Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”. This is the standard prompt for newly-published installers.
My model replies with an authentication error
Re-check the API key in Settings, make sure the matching provider is selected, and confirm the key still has quota in the provider’s dashboard.
A download link doesn’t work
Try again in a moment — the download falls back to a mirror automatically. You can also grab any build directly from the releases page.
FAQ
Is More AI free?
The desktop app is free to download and run. Cloud execution, supported sync and cross-device access are offered by subscription, though enabled beta features are currently free. The subscription does not include tokens: BYOK is billed by your provider; a signed-in account may separately receive a limited free pooled allowance.
Do I need an account?
An account is optional for local desktop work with your own key or model. It is required for supported cloud execution and sync, web or mobile access, and any pooled model allowance granted to the account.
Where is my data stored?
Desktop work has a local copy. While you are signed out it does not sync; after sign-in, enabled sync categories upload the supported data they cover. Cloud execution is controlled separately.
Which providers are supported?
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, OpenRouter and other compatible APIs — including local, OpenAI-compatible endpoints.
How is this different from Claude Desktop?
More AI starts with a free, local-first desktop app and your own API key, so you choose the models and control token spend. The optional subscription pays for cloud execution, supported sync and cross-device access; during the beta, those enabled cloud features are temporarily free.
